How it works
Fades are the polish of audio editing: a fade in eases the listener in from silence instead of starting abruptly, and a fade out gives endings a graceful, professional taper instead of a hard chop. This tool applies both, independently, from 0 to 10 seconds each.
Two curve shapes are offered. Linear fades ramp at a perfectly even rate - ideal for tiny utility fades that remove clicks at edit points. Smooth fades use a raised-cosine curve that eases gently at both ends, matching how our ears perceive loudness - the better choice for audible musical fades.
This is a buffer (offline) tool: the whole file is rendered with your fades and returned as a downloadable file. Everything runs client-side in your browser, so your files never leave your device and nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between smooth and linear fades?
A linear fade changes volume at a constant rate, which can sound like it drops off suddenly at the end because our hearing is logarithmic. A smooth (raised-cosine) fade eases in and out gently, which sounds more natural - it is the better default for musical fades.
How long should a fade out be?
For song endings, 3-8 seconds feels natural. For removing a click at an edit point, 0.05-0.5 seconds is plenty and inaudible. Anything over 10 seconds is rarely needed.
Will fades affect the middle of my audio?
No - only the first inSec seconds and the last outSec seconds are touched. Everything between the fades is copied bit-for-bit.
Is there a file size limit? Is it private?
Files up to 100MB are supported. Fades are applied sample-by-sample entirely in your browser - your audio never leaves your device.
