How it works
The Audio Converter re-encodes your file to MP3 (128, 192 or 320 kbps) or WAV (16-bit, 24-bit or 32-bit float) without ever uploading it. MP3 encoding uses a perceptual model that discards sounds the human ear cannot hear, shrinking files to roughly a tenth of WAV size; WAV keeps every sample bit-for-bit for lossless archiving and further editing.
The format select here doubles as the page's output control: the app reads it through getSettings() when you download, so the format you pick is exactly the file you get. Conversion quality depends only on the bitrate you choose - the encode itself adds no watermarks or alterations.
Everything is client-side: decoding, encoding and the download all happen in your browser tab. Your files never leave your device and nothing is sent to any server.
Frequently asked questions
Which format should I choose?
MP3 192 kbps is the sweet spot for everyday listening - small files, great quality. Choose 320 kbps for archiving or DJ use, 128 kbps when size matters most (ringtones, voice notes), and WAV 16-bit when you need lossless quality for further editing.
What input formats are supported?
Anything your browser can decode: MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A/AAC, FLAC and more. If it plays in your browser, it converts.
Does converting MP3 to MP3 lose quality?
Yes, slightly - MP3 is lossy, so re-encoding an MP3 discards a little more detail each generation. For best quality, convert from a lossless source (WAV/FLAC) or to WAV.
Is there a file size limit? Is it private?
Files up to 100MB are supported. Encoding runs entirely in your browser - your audio never leaves your device.
