Vocals are removed by cancelling what is identical in both channels. Keeping the bass protects kick and bass from being thinned out.

How it works
The Vocal Remover is a karaoke maker built on a classic studio trick: center-channel cancellation. In most stereo mixes the lead vocal sits dead center, meaning it is identical in the left and right channels. Subtracting one channel from the other cancels the vocal while the instruments panned to the sides survive.
No separation is perfect - anything else mixed in the center (kick, bass, snare) is reduced too, and vocal reverb leaves a faint ghost. The "keep bass" option compensates by restoring frequencies below the vocal range, so the backing track keeps its punch for singing or rapping over.
All the DSP runs client-side in your browser on the decoded audio data. Your music never leaves your device and nothing is uploaded to a server.
Frequently asked questions
How does vocal removal work?
Most commercial mixes place the lead vocal dead center - identical in the left and right channels. Subtracting one channel from the other cancels everything in the center (usually the vocal) while leaving the panned instruments behind.
Will it remove vocals completely?
Usually not 100%. Centered instruments (kick, bass, snare) are also reduced, and stereo reverb on the vocal leaves a ghostly residue. Results vary by mix - dry, centered pop vocals vanish best; wide, reverby vocals leave traces.
What does "keep bass" do?
Low frequencies are often mixed in mono, so plain vocal removal thins out the kick and bass. The keep-bass option restores the low end below the vocal range, keeping the backing track punchy.
Is there a file size limit? Is it private?
