Positive values raise the pitch, negative values lower it. Tempo stays the same.

How it works

Pitch shifting changes how high or low audio sounds without changing its speed or duration. Drag to -12 semitones and a vocal drops a full octave; drag to +7 and it rises a perfect fifth. The algorithm works per audio channel using a phase-vocoder-style resampling process that preserves timing while moving every frequency up or down.

Because this is a buffer (offline) effect, the whole file is rendered with your chosen shift and the result is a brand-new audio file you can download. Small shifts sound transparent; larger ones take on the classic pitched-up "chipmunk" or pitched-down "demonic" character heard in countless records.

All processing is client-side: your audio is decoded, shifted and re-encoded inside your own browser tab, so files never leave your device and nothing is uploaded to a server.

Frequently asked questions

Does pitch shifting change the tempo?

No. This tool changes only the pitch (how high or low the sound is) while keeping the duration and tempo identical - a +12 semitone shift raises everything exactly one octave without speeding up.

Why does the 440 Hz to 432 Hz preset use -0.318 semitones?

The ratio 432/440 converted to semitones is 12 * log2(432/440), which equals approximately -0.318. That tiny shift retunes A440 reference pitch down to A432.

What is the quality like at extreme settings?

Small shifts (a few semitones) sound clean. Extreme shifts beyond about +/-12 semitones can introduce phasy or grainy artifacts - that is normal for all pitch-shifting algorithms.

Is there a file size limit? Is it private?

Files up to 100MB are supported, and everything is processed locally in your browser. Your audio never leaves your device.
