-60 dB is near-silent, 0 dB is unchanged, +24 dB is much louder (may clip).

Sets the gain so the loudest peak in your file hits exactly 0 dB - maximum loudness without clipping.

How it works

The Volume Changer applies clean digital gain from -60 dB (near silence) to +24 dB using a simple GainNode - the most transparent operation in audio, adding or removing loudness with zero tonal change. The one-click normalize feature goes further: it scans your entire file for its loudest peak and sets the exact gain needed to hit 0 dB, the hottest possible level without clipping.

Normalization is the standard first step before sharing or publishing audio - it guarantees consistent, maximum loudness across files without any distortion risk. The peak scan reads the decoded buffer the app holds on the panel container, so it works instantly on files of any length.

All of it happens client-side in your browser via the Web Audio API. Your files never leave your device and nothing is uploaded to a server.

Frequently asked questions

What does "normalize to peak" do?

It measures the loudest peak in your file and applies exactly enough gain to bring that peak to 0 dB - the maximum level before digital clipping. Quiet recordings get louder; already-loud files stay as they are.

Will boosting volume cause distortion?

It can: pushing gain past the point where peaks exceed 0 dB causes clipping (harsh distortion). The normalize button avoids this by targeting exactly 0 dB. For manual boosts, listen for crunch on loud passages.

What is the difference between dB and percent?

Decibels are logarithmic, matching how we hear: +6 dB is roughly twice as loud in amplitude, +20 dB is ten times. That is why the slider runs -60 to +24 dB instead of 0-100%.

Is there a file size limit? Is it private?

Files up to 100MB are supported. Gain runs in real time in your browser - your audio never leaves your device.
