How far the centered content is turned down. 6 dB is subtle, 12 dB is obvious, 24 dB is near-karaoke β but this is reduction, not removal, so traces remain.

How it works
The Lead Vocal Reducer is the gentler cousin of the Vocal Remover. Instead of trying to cancel the vocal completely, it splits the stereo image into mid (center) and side (width) and turns the mid down by an amount you choose, up to 24 dB. The result sounds like the same mix with the singer stepped back β or, at high settings, a karaoke-style backing track that still feels full.
Because the math only touches the center, everything panned wide survives untouched: backing vocals, stereo guitars, reverb tails. That is both the strength and the honest limit β bleed from centered instruments and wide vocal doubles is part of the sound, not a bug.
Processing is a pure per-sample operation on decoded audio data, performed client-side in your browser tab.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between reducing and removing vocals?
Removing tries to cancel the vocal entirely (and takes centered drums and bass with it); reducing just turns the center down by a chosen amount. Reduction keeps the mix sounding natural β you hear the same song, only with the singer stepped back.
Why can I still hear backing vocals?
Backing vocals are usually panned wide or doubled across the stereo field, not sitting dead center β so a center-based reducer barely touches them. Some bleed is expected and unavoidable with this technique.
Will this affect the drums and bass?
Somewhat: kick, snare and bass are also mixed in the center, so they get turned down along with the vocal. Gentle settings (6β12 dB) keep this subtle; at 24 dB the whole center of the mix thins out.
Is there a file size limit? Is it private?
Files up to 100MB are supported. The mid/side math runs entirely in your browser β your music never leaves your device.
