How it works

Audio Recorder turns this page into a simple studio: hit Start recording, grant microphone permission once, and capture your voice, an instrument, a meeting or any sound around you. A live level meter shows your input volume while the timer counts up, and you can pick between microphones when you have more than one.

When you press Stop, the take is decoded instantly — preview it through the built-in player, then download it as WAV or MP3. Like everything on AudioMix, the whole pipeline runs in your browser: no uploads, no accounts, no waiting, and your audio stays on your device.

Frequently asked questions

Where does my recording go?

Nowhere. The microphone stream goes from your browser’s capture pipeline straight to a local audio file on your device. This site has no server, so there is nothing to upload to — your recording never leaves your computer or phone.

Why is the record button not working?

The usual reasons: (1) your browser is asking for microphone permission and you dismissed it — allow access in the browser’s site settings and try again; (2) the page was opened over plain HTTP or from a file — microphone access requires HTTPS or localhost; (3) another app is already using the microphone.

What format is the recording saved in?

The capture format depends on your browser — Chrome and Edge record Opus audio in a WebM container, Safari records AAC in MP4. When you stop, the recording is decoded and you download it as WAV (16-bit, 24-bit or 32-bit float) or MP3 at the bitrate you pick below, just like every other tool here.

Is there a time limit?

No fixed limit. Recordings are held in memory, so very long takes (an hour or more) can get heavy on low-memory devices — for podcasts and long sessions, record in parts.

Can I record system audio or a browser tab?

This tool records from microphones only. Browsers do not let a plain web page capture another tab’s audio without a screen-share session, so recording a call or a video playing elsewhere is not supported here.
